Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
I designed an 11 x 17 poster for our non-profit Art Center, one that would be eye-catching and inspiring, yet simple. We have several festivals, exhibits and classes throughout the year, and will be using this to advertise our organization throughout our area and beyond, as well as online at various internet sights. All of the pictures used were taken in and around The Art Center, and I meshed them together to try to highlight various aspects of our organization. I wanted the viewer to see something new the closer they looked, and raise their curiousity and awareness as to what we are about.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
We are a non-profit Art's Association at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, that strives to promote the arts to all ages within our community. We are one of the strongest forces behind Blue Ridge, Georgia's journey to becoming one of the nation's top art communities. Although, we have had a strong advertising force behing our festivals, exhibits, etc., we have never had a strong force behind advertising the organization itself. We rely on memberships, donations and fees from our festivals, auctions, etc. to keep our Art Center growing and strong. We are striving to get the LOCAL community behind our efforts, many which no nothing about our organization or even where we are located. This is ironic because we are located in the heart of downtown in the historic courthouse of Fannin County. We need people to know who WE are so that we can continue our mission of fostering the arts in the North Georgia Mountains.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
Our organization's mission of informing the community and region about who we are, and what we do is and always will be ongoing. We are already distributing this poster as one of the many steps in trying to teach people the importance of the arts, and our vital role behind that goal within our community. We have had several comments about the design, proving it's "attention-getting" effectiveness. Now we hope that those notices will lead to more curiousity and eventually to more members, supporters, students, artists and art lovers in the future. That is why we are here! We want people to know just that - WE ARE HERE, right in their back yards so to speak. We are a priceless commodity waiting for people to discover and use to enhance their creative talent!
