Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
Our Marketing Intern, Rachael McCoy, was able to use the InDesign Adobe program to merge her classroom training at the University of Nevada School of Journalism with a hands on project. This tool is used by the agency's board of directors and staff to walk community leaders, board prospects, donors and donor prospects, and potential volunteers through the story of our work in planting vulnerable children who are living in poverty on the path to success. It tells this story through photos, graphs, charts and short stories and captures "Little Moments. Big Magic." It is innovative because it allows us to talk and show at the same time when using something like a video or a powerpoint would be inappropriate for a small audience, or a one on one. It has been effective in being able to focus attention on our key messages and accomplishments, build credibility and leave a strong message behind afterwards.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Communicating effectively to discuss the need in our community for Big Brothers Big Sisters, the local impact, the local accomplishments, and build understanding about how we do this. Issues we address are childhood poverty and fractured families. The piece conveys the message that although the issue is serious, the time spent with a child is fun and upbeat and has a long term value.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
Large increase in the accuracy of the knowledge by community leaders in understanding the mission and vision of our work. We did a telephone survey after the report was sent to community leaders and the improvement in the knowledge of community leaders grew from 22% to 93%.
