Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
We are submitting our 2009-10 Annual Report, which is offered to visitors at the center and is available on our website. (.pdf file) It was created by staff and board members for the purpose of giving a snapshot of FLCC to the community and potential grantors in an efficient manner as an organization of learning for people of all ages. It serves as one of our favorite "brochures," and is almost always packaged with grant requests.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
The economy in this region of South Carolina has been hit hard by the departure of the textile industry, as well as the closure of industries and businesses who were dependent upon it. Unemployment has skyrocketed in the area, with Chester County at 22%! This makes fundraising for most nonprofit organizations very difficult, if at all possible. Ready information, such as "Annual Report 2009-10" was created to help broadcast what FLCC is about to any audience.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
"Annual Report 2009-10" has proven to be an effective marketing tool for The Fort Lawn Community Center! Its uses have included the acknowledgement and encouragement of existing and/or potential partners and volunteers, enticing new memberships and donors, showing courses and other activities offered, draw vendors and promotions for our annual Spring Festival, and more. The use of Adobe Acrobat has made it possible to view "Annual Report 2009-10" on our website, making a limitless audience potential! We feel that it is one of the reasons why despite the local economy, we look to be on track for our fundraising goal!
