Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
This is Committed Partners for Youth, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lane County’s annual newsletter. It is a very significant communication vehicle that we produce once a year. It allows us to share our successes, our stories and our amazing volunteers with the public. It offers the reader a glimpse into the lives of youth we serve to see how mentoring has effected their lives. It’s innovative in that it allows us to use it for a wide variety of reasons - to thank those involved as mentors, to thank those that have invested financially, to use as an informative pamphlet for new folks interested in getting involved or learning more, and to show that we are serious about our mission and thoughtfully always exploring new ways to be leaders in the crusade to help children. Lastly, it showcases our connection to our community partners. It’s a great way to show how the village can and does raise the children!
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
This piece helped resolve our issue of finding a way to share that magic of mentoring! We can personally hand it to someone that we feel would have an interest and perhaps support our cause. It professionally demonstrates our dedication to our mission and helps us gain respect and inspires others to act. It encourages our donors and caring volunteers to stay connected to the agency over time and motivates new folks to get involved helping youth. It is an effective piece because, unlike the internet, it is printed into a pamphlet that can be given to others to hold and to view over time and at their leisure, allowing them to explore new thoughtful ways to participate.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
