CREATE Foundation 2009 Annual Report

Organization Name:
CREATE Foundation
City & State:
Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
The 2009 Annual Report is used to communicate current information on the work of the foundation to our donors and other interested parties. It is innovative for our foundation because it is the most visually appealing and concisely written report we have produced. The design work was also produced in house for the first time which saved the foundation a significant amount of money. The purpose of our annual report is to simply and clearly illustrate how our foundation is involved in improving the quality of life for the people of this region.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
It is difficult to simply and clearly explain exactly what a community foundation does. With our 2009 Annual Report we are attempting to help our donors and our community understand the work of the foundation and how they can be involved in making a difference in our region. Our previous reports have been burdened with too much technical and detailed copy which most people do not want to read. We took a different approach this year. We kept the copy simple and brief and the visual images large and inviting.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
We have received a lot of positive feedback on our 2009 annual report. People are actually reading it and enjoying the visual appeal of the piece. It was released the end of April so it has only been a few weeks. At this point, it is difficult to tell what the full impact of the piece will be. We expect our readers to be engaged and interested through the 36 page report. Hopefully, they will gain a better understanding of what a community foundation is and how they can join in making a positive contribution to the quality of life in our region.
