Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
This submission is a promotional rack card for the Center for Visual Artists (CVA), a visual arts non-profit organization in downtown Greensboro, NC. This card visually and textually sums up the purpose and offerings of the CVA. The use of image blocks, bold colors, and clean precise text catches the eye of the viewer. A quick glance at the card allows the prospective patron to grasp exactly what the organization has to offer to its community.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
The Center for Visual Artists (CVA) is the result of a merger five years ago of two nonprofit organizations, one focusing on the local artist and the other arts education. The organization has struggled since the merger to define itself in the local arts community and find its new identity. The primary problem with conceptualizing this card relates more so to solving the problem of combining the two worlds, that of the working artist and that of the young art-maker, in a single cohesive marketing material.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
The CVA Promo Card allows those inside and outside of the local arts community to better understand the organization as a whole. Many small nonprofits struggle to make a name for themselves and rely so deeply on "word of mouth." This card speaks quietly with few words, yet visually peaks the interest of the viewer to explore more about the arts organization that this card represents.
