Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
Two copies of this poster for the Miami International Piano Festival's Discovery Series were placed outside the Lincoln Theatre - one near the box office, one at the far end of the building. The Theatre is located on Lincoln Road - a pedestrian Mall on South Beach (Miami Beach) where thousands of people stroll up and down daily - almost 24/7. In terms of innovation, the piece had to be eye catching yet include tons of program information because classical music enthusiasts are often program motivated and our artists are not yet household names.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
With the number of tourists and outside visitors attending events and conferences on Miami Beach, you never know who might "stumble upon" the Festival and the images outside the theatre need to grab their attention. The piano keyboard graphic aims to immediately identify the theme. Another problem is that as the Exec. Dir. of the Festival, I am not a trained graphic artist and I literally have self taught myself, InDesign, PhotoShop, DreamWeaver and a little bit of Flash. I wish I had the time & resources to take a class!
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
During the Festival, several out-of-town patrons come up to me and mentioned that they "lucked out" by finding the Festival during their stay on Miami Beach and confirmed that the posters were their only clue as to what was going on inside. I witnessed many passers-by stopping to read the posters so I guess the posters were succesful in getting some attention for the concerts.
