What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Secure paper destruction is a relatively young industry and has become an increasingly popular business venture among charitable organizations. Also on the rise is the emphasis on environment preservation and recycled materials. Easter Seals Capital Region & Eastern Connecticut understood these concerns and saw an opportunity to simultaneaouly provide a solution to them and grow its mission to employ the disabled and help them learn to be employees in a productive work environment. Easter Seals founded EnvrioShred in 2009 under this premise and has grown substantially since then. As simple of a process as document destruction may be, those concerned with proper disposal of their confidential materials were unclear of the entire process and requested to see more. This circle diagram was designed to help emphasize three principles within the EnviroShred business model; security, efficiency and environmental stewardship.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
EnviroShred is a social entrepreneurship that serves many purposes and in order to employ its disabled clients and help rebuild their lives, it had an obligation to market its document destruction business to the local and distant communities in a clear and concise manner. This diagram has helped do just that. The simplicity of this doucment played a major role in helping to meet marketing goals. Now a booming business, each ton of paper recycled by EnviroShred saves 17 trees, 100 gallons of gas, 60 pounds of air pollutants, 7,000 gallons of water and 4,200 kilowatt-hours of electricity. The diagram continuously serves as a marketing tool for sales staff, presentations and community grant proposals.
