Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
We created 25 - thirty second Public Service Announcement videos for area non profits on our first ever FREE PSA Day. they will be shown on public access, and available to place on the websites of the organizations. In our rural area, it is a challenge for non profits to 'get their word out' about the wonderful work they are doing to build capacity in our communities. This opportunity was a first offering by our media council/public access organization and we had 42 applicants for 25 production time slots. Innovative in the sense that no one or has offered this type of service in our area to date. There is a clear desire for this type of service in our rural county. Photoshop was key for the editing of the footage we shot in the studio with a green screen. This type of production raised the bar for our services helping to get attention to our non profit organization as well as those we were serving.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Siskiyou Media Council (SMC) is struggling to market our video production services to our rural community. We needed to develop a plan to 'put us on the map' and let people and organizations know about our production facilities and our ability to serve non profits in their media needs. Production of green screen interviews needed to be edited into a final 30 second piece that looked professional and effectively communicated the client's message. We wanted to create a win-win for our organization, and those that would be chosen to participate in this event.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
Upon completion of the green screen interviews, all twenty-five clients we very impressed with their experience in our production facility. Most had never seen the studio on the campus of the local community college. Immediate feedback, even before viewing their edited thirty second PSA, was fantastic. Word of mouth has already gotten our organization positive notice in the community. The finished PSA's are scheduled to be delivered this week, will begin airing on public access channel and on our homepage at mctv15.org shortly. A survey will give us much needed feedback on the overall event and results.
