Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
This piece was used to introduce our organization and programs to the residents of Hawaii during the recent Kokua Festival, sponsored by Jack Jonhson's Onhana Foundation. It incorporates the image of a custom guitar and ukelele on one side with information about our efforts to bring integrated music education to Hawaii's elementary schools and classrooms on the other.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
The goal of the piece was to bring attention and awareness of our organization and our music education programs to the public. Arts education budgets have been cut throughout the U.S. and GITC's mission is to train classroom teachers so that they can integrate music into their regular teaching activities.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
The card presented our message in an attractive, graphic way and was very popular when it was distributed during the Kokua Festival
