Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
A new brochure to enhance the public's awareness of the Hannibal Square Heritage Center (HSHC), a branch of Crealde Arts Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Winter Park, Florida. The Hannibal Square Heritage Center, operated in partnership with the City of Winter Park, enables Crealdé to expand its outreach to the west Winter Park community and to strengthen the organization’s mission to use the arts as a vehicle to connect and celebrate individuals, neighborhoods, and cultural diversity. Our brochure conveys a clear, compelling story about HSHC, its vision and goals, and its programs focused on arts education and history. It has been used as a marketing tool for strategic meetings with funders and potential project partners from corporate, government, and non-profit sectors. The brochure is innovative in its use of a series of historic images to convey the key themes of HSHC’s mission and goals.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
The Hannibal Square Heritage Center opened in 2007 and needed a brochure highlighting the value and impact of its programs and exhibitions. This brochure had to establish the organization's image and marketing materials as cost-effectively as possible. The main goal was developing a brochure that is visually appealing and accessible to all audiences.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
The cornerstone of the center is The Heritage Collection: Photographs and Oral Histories of West Winter Park, which speaks about the hardships and the triumphs of Winter Park’s African American community from 1900 to the present. These personal accounts of community life make history come alive and engage visitors young and old. Enabling the organization to enhance its visibility and outreach to local, state and federal agencies is critical to its mission. A professional, attractive and easy-to-read brochure also enhances interest in the Hannibal Square Heritage Center from out of state visitors.
