Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
These pieces (a flyer and 2 postcards) were used to advertise America SCORES Chicago’s first Inspired Art, a fundraiser art show and silent auction. Inspired Art featured original pieces by local artists inspired by poetry written by America SCORES’ youth. All proceeds were to benefit America SCORES’ free soccer and literacy afterschool programming. The featured painting is by artist Kate Korroch who kindly donated her piece to Inspired Art. She won the opportunity for her piece to be featured on all Inspired Art marketing collateral. The design is sleek and eye-catching, and has the feel of an art gallery or professional art show. It accurately explains the objective of the event, gives publicity to the hosting gallery and a local artist, and generates publicity for the America SCORES mission and program. It is a departure from America SCORES’ typical awareness campaigns, which are youth-oriented and show youth from the program engaging in soccer and literacy.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
America SCORES Chicago is a small non-profit with only 13 full-time employees serving, however, 500 youth. America SCORES works hard to communicate its mission and program to a wider audience. This piece marks the first time America SCORES began to tap into an entirely new audience market: friends of the arts and/or artists.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
With this piece, America SCORES could effectively market to those who had never heard of America SCORES, persuade them to attend the event, and ultimately support the mission. The Inspired Art event raised close to $7,000, and approximately 30 new people attended the event. The event was so successful America SCORES will have another Inspired Art event in October 2010.
