- Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
- Potential homebuyers who need homeownership counseling certification and have physical disabilities have difficulty attending traditional classes. In addition potential homebuyers that are working usually have to take time off or have to rearrange their schedules to take the classes and receive on-on-one counseling. At a time when the potential homebuyer is trying to save every dollar, sometimes this is not the best solution.
Consumer Credit and Budget Counseling has developed an Online Homeownership Counseling Certification Program using Adobe Products as a convenience to those potential homebuyers whose disabilities, schedules or circumstances do not allow them to attend regular classes and one-on-one homeownership counseling.
This is the first course of its kind to pass the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education.
- What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
- Foreclosure is devastating families and as a HUD approved housing counseling agency, it is our mission not only to help those that are experiencing the problem, but help to prevent it. Pre-Purchase Homeownership Counseling and Education has been proven to minimize mortgage delinquency and foreclosure by 27%, but how do you reach those individuals with disabilities and whose schedules or circumstances do not allow them to attend regular classes and one-on-one homeownership counseling?
Adobe® had the answer! Using donated and discounted Adobe® products we developed a online course that meets the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and is accessible to individuals, even those with disabilities, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We used Adobe® Presenter to bring the information to life, Adobe® Acrobat® for the documents and forms and Adobe® Acrobat® Connect™ Pro to put it all together.
- How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
- Consumer Credit and Budget Counseling has been able to reach 85 families that were unable to take the traditional training because of disability, schedules or circumstances. And we are pleased to report that to date 54 of those families have received the complete training. Further, we are secure in the knowledge that they have receive critical information and counseling to go forward and stand a better chance of avoiding mortgage delinquency and foreclosure!
