Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
These pieces were used to promote a celebratory event hosted by Habitat Omaha to acknowledge our million dollar partnership with Thrivent Financial and to thank all of the supporters, volunteers and Partner Families who made this partnership possible. Invitations were sent to everyone who was a part of the any of 15 houses that were built in this partnership. Bus passes were handed out to all attendees to spark interest in the special HabiTours that were taking place during the celebration and to provide interesting facts about the partnership. The “Thanks a Million” logo was taken from a sketch by a volunteer involved in the partnership who felt that it represented the bond between the two organizations and the many hands that came together to make it all possible. The event logo, HabiTour bus and bell flowers (which are a symbol of gratitude) were created in Illustrator, the invitation, bus pass and sign were created in InDesign.
What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
Habitat Omaha supporters help with our mission in many ways. While construction volunteers and Partner Families see the work firsthand, many donors and behind the scenes volunteers don’t have the chance to witness the impact they are making or meet the people who benefit from their donations and hard work. We wanted the chance to allow all of our supporters to experience the excitement of House Dedication Ceremonies, hear from a Partner Family and see firsthand the impact their support is having on the community. Often many of our volunteers and Partner Families know that there is a donor sponsoring their house but they don’t have the opportunity to meet the people who are responsible for making that donation possible—we wanted to change that. We also wanted the volunteers and Partner Families to know that our donors couldn’t give back to the community without them and that they are appreciative for all of the hard work the volunteers and Partner Families put into building homes.
How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
To address the issues we brought together volunteers, donors and Partner Families to meet each other and see how they work as a team. To give all supporters a chance to see their progress in the fight against poverty housing and to acknowledge Thrivent Financial’s $1M donation, we held the “Thanks a Million” celebration. The invitations allowed us to spread the word about the event and gave us the opportunity to show our supporters that we appreciate all they do for the mission. The bus passes/signs served as a reminder of the special HabiTours that took supporters around the community to witness their impact firsthand and also gave attendees more information about the partnership between Habitat Omaha and Thrivent Financial. The “Thanks a Million” logo and event helped convey the sense of partnership that’s essential in the fight against poverty housing and left all supporters knowing that they helped played a crucial role in the 15 houses that were built because of this partnership.
