- Describe your creative piece – what is it and what has it been used for, and why is it innovative?
- Being based in Aspen, Colorado and most of our work being done in Africa, our web site is the only tool we have to effectively communicate with everyone that makes our organization possible. From the people and organizations that support us, to the people, places and animals that we are protecting and conserving.
Our original web site was designed without the use of Adobe Photoshop, using this tool which was purchased through techsoup allowed us to design a visually stunning and easy to use interface that was professional to the point of attracting grantors yet easy enough to use for our grantees in Africa.
Combining design elements created in Illustrator and Photoshop, with media elements prepared in Photoshop and Flash has allowed us to present an enormous amount of information in a clean concise manner. The Adobe tools have allowed the WildiZe Foundation to affordably create an online presence that competes online with any organization in the world.
- What issue or problem were you working to address with this piece?
- WildiZe Foundation was being presented on line by an antiquated web site that was not easy to use or visually elegant. The web site we had did not reflect our professional image and we were not comfortable using it as our window to the outside world.
- How has your submission successfully impacted your organization’s ability to solve this issue/problem?
- The WildiZe Foundations first web site was hand coded in html and very basic. No one outside of the home office could add or update content or provide feedback. Using Adobe Photoshop to design the site, then using Adobe Dreamweaver to build the page templates that were then coded in php by programmers allowed us to develop a site that was administrable via any location world wide, including while on location in Africa. This has significantly increased the impact and usefulness of the site.
Our original web site that was designed without the use of Adobe Photoshop also lacked the professionalism of the work our foundation was achieving. We now feel the visual design created with Photoshop is on par with the work we are accomplishing in the world.
WildiZe also utilizes Adobe PDF technology to allow users on basic systems to download our various forms. The platforms on which some of our users are working on can not support other modern file types.
