Show Your Impact: National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (www.p2.org)The National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (NPPR) provides a national forum for promoting the development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts to avoid, eliminate, or reduce pollution at the source. As the largest membership organization in the United States devoted solely to pollution prevention (P2), NPPR takes pride in providing members with timely and accurate information on its most recent initiatives. Boasting approximately 200 members nationwide, NPPR engages and educates its members through workgroups, national meetings, and an active publications program. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, NPPR charitably offers the most current data on pollution prevention policy developments, practices and resources. Microsoft technologies equip NPPR with the capacity to coordinate workgroups, organize national meetings, and publish biweekly and bimonthly e-newsletters without the use of paper documents and publications. Microsoft Office allows NPPR to facilitate the direct exchange of ideas and expertise as well as expand its reach. NPPR’s active publications program is fully supported by Microsoft Office software. While reports, documents, and position papers are authored on Microsoft Word, NPPR’s P2Post and P2Press are designed on Microsoft Publisher. Both publications exhibit professional and lucid document design. Members can access all NPPR publications through the NPPR’s website and e-mails, avoiding the use of paper entirely. Furthermore, NPPR’s modest office does not rely on paper copies either. NPPR uses Microsoft Outlook to organize e-mails and electronic copies of documents in its network. Beyond its publications, NPPR maintains membership records electronically with Microsoft Access. Valuable office space is preserved through electronic file storage. Despite NPPR’s members being from all over the world, webinars educate members on the NPPR website.NPPR focuses on limiting anthropogenic pollution in its initiatives as well as its own operation. With the absence of copiers, NPPR disseminates important advancements in pollution prevention while limiting its own consumption. Electronically-accessible media allows NPPR to cleanly and quickly deliver its message to its members.

NPPR’s office model could revolutionize the way non-profit organizations, and even businesses, operate. NPPR’s costs, several computers and two staff members, are greatly outweighed by its successes. As the global economy gravitates towards more sustainable and, in many cases, more profitable business models, NPPR stands apart as a forerunning example of efficient and responsible operation. Owing in large part to Microsoft technologies, NPPR’s enhanced efficiency translates into a cleaner, safer planet for all.
